Gore Redefines Reality

One of the world’s biggest liars, Albert “Götterdämmerung” Gore Jr., spying from his sumptious führerbunker his dreams of scamming the world ended by a sad deficiency of world-wide warming, as well as fewer tornadoes, fewer droughts, and fewer dupes of his apocalyptic doom-saying, has determined on a savage, reality-denying, youth-recruiting, ruinous, final effort to hoodwink the world into believing in his discredited CAGW conjecture of a trace-gas-induced Ragnarök.  (Any day now, perhaps, we might watch as he pins an Iron Cross to the tunic of a teenager who has removed all the incandescent light-bulbs from his parents’ house.)  Gore eructates:
The climate crisis is a reality, and we are seeing its impacts in extreme weather all around the world.  Using the same deceitful playbook as big tobacco used years before to mislead the public about the dangers of smoking, oil and coal companies and their allies are now deceiving the public about climate change.  They have nearly unlimited resources to sow doubt, but we have one critical advantage:  Reality is on our side.
We are not seeing particularly remarkable extreme weather, that’s a lie.  We here at Impact of Climate Change, for example, are not being funded by anyone, we have very limited resources, and we are not deceiving anyone.  Reality is not on Al. Gore’s side.

Four Lies in Four Sentences

From the conclusion of The Critical Decade: Climate science, risks and responses, by the Climate Commission:
As you’ve read in this report, we know beyond reasonable doubt that the world is warming and that human emissions of greenhouse gases are the primary cause.*  The impacts of climate change are already being felt in Australia and around the world with less than 1 degree of warming globally.†  The risks of future climate change – to our economy, society and environment – are serious, and grow rapidly with each degree of further temperature rise.‡ Minimising these risks requires rapid, deep and ongoing reductions to global greenhouse gas emissions.§ [p. 60]

Disconnection between Climate Change & Reality

Terry McCrann, in his Herald Sun column*, writes, “When the wind doesn’t blow … which is nearly all the time”:
Eric Beecher’s Crikey, new media’s effort to make old media shock jocks look like voices of calm and reason, got it exactly and so deliciously right yesterday.
“There’s a bizarre disconnection between the climate change debate in Australia and reality,” was the email’s plaintive opening sentence.
Quite.  Collective warmenists like Crikey and its ‘intellectual’ peer The Age demonstrate the truth of that sentence every day—persistently, stridently and so totally unknowingly in their pompous condescending inanity.
If men are from Mars and women from Venus, generally speaking, then the Crikey people and their fellow warmenists are from a dark planet way outside our or indeed any solar system.
The first, biggest and all-encompassing disconnect from reality is their demand for a “price on carbon [sic] to tackle global warming”.  […]
Crikey & The Age & co. are the ones disconnected from reality.  […]
You want to see a disconnect from reality?  Look at the blithe belief of people like Crikey and The Age that we can close down our coal-fired plants and we’ll get the electricity from ‘something else’.[†]
Here’s another reality from which the debate has been very deliberately ‘disconnected’.
Analysis [by Tom Quirk] shows the carbon tax will have to be at least $50 a tonne, not the $20 a tonne soothingly and deceptively promoted by Combet, to begin to force a shift from coal to that ‘something else’.  Principally gas.
Try connecting that with the ‘reality’ of the higher prices you face for everything.
The reality is that there is one big difference between the carbon tax and the GST.  The carbon tax will force up the price of EVERYTHING—including health, education and fresh food excluded from the GST.
This is the reality that needs to be disconnected from the rubbish and outright lies spun by Combet, Gillard and their obliging mouthpieces at Crikey and The Age.
*  The version of the column in the Daily Telegraph is truncated; it ends with:  “Analysis by Quirk shows the carbon tax will have to be at least $50 a tonne, not the $20 a tonne promoted by Greg Combet, to begin to force a shift from coal to other sources.”  The editors of Sydney’s Daily Telegraph reckon that its readers are more easily vexed, perhaps, by offensive but accurate terminology (such as “deceptively” and “rubbish” and “outright lies”) than the readers of Melbourne’s Herald Sun are.
†  See also  “A lot of hot air: Wind farms ‘working at just 21% of capacity’”, by David Derbyshire:  “Britain’s wind farms produce far less electricity than their supporters claim – and cannot be relied upon to keep the lights on, a study from a conservation charity showed yesterday.”

UPDATE—from comments:  Official report says, “Wind-farms are totally useless.”

Rising Seas & Drowning Bears

Two egregious claims in the film, “An Inconvenient Truth”, were, in the English court-case of Dimmock v. Secretary of State for Education and Skills ([2007] EWHC 2288 (Admin), [2008] 1 All ER 367), specifically mentioned in Justice Burton’s decision as erroneous:
1.  ‘Error’ 11:  Sea level rise of up to 20 feet (7 metres) will be caused by melting of either West Antarctica or Greenland in the near future.
In scene 21 (the film is carved up for teaching purposes into 32 scenes), in one of the most graphic parts of the film Mr Gore says as follows:
“If Greenland broke up and melted, or if half of Greenland and half of West Antarctica broke up and melted, this is what would happen to the sea level in Florida.  This is what would happen in the San Francisco Bay.  A lot of people live in these areas.  The Netherlands, the Low Countries:  absolutely devastation.  The area around Beijing is home to tens of millions of people.  Even worse, in the area around Shanghai, there are 40 million people.  Worse still, Calcutta, and to the east Bangladesh, the area covered includes 50 million people.   Think of the impact of a couple of hundred thousand refugees when they are displaced by an environmental event and then imagine the impact of a 100 million or more.  Here is Manhattan.  This is the World Trade Center memorial site.  After the horrible events of 9/11 we said never again.   This is what would happen to Manhattan.  They can measure this precisely, just as scientists could predict precisely how much water would breach the levee in New Orleans.”
This is distinctly alarmist, and part of Mr Gore’s ‘wake-up call’.  It is common ground that if indeed Greenland melted, it would release this amount of water, but only after, and over, millennia, so that the Armageddon scenario he predicts, insofar as it suggests that sea level rises of 7 metres might occur in the immediate future, is not in line with the scientific consensus.
[...]
8.  ‘Error’ 15:  Death of polar bears.
In scene 16, by reference to a dramatic graphic of a polar bear desperately swimming through the water looking for ice, Mr Gore says:  “A new scientific study shows that for the first time they are finding polar bears that have actually drowned swimming long distances up to 60 miles to find the ice.  They did not find that before.”  The only scientific study that either side before me can find is one which indicates that four polar bears have recently been found drowned because of a storm.  That is not to say that there may not in the future be drowning-related deaths of polar bears if the trend of regression of pack-ice and/or longer open water continues, but it plainly does not support Mr Gore's description.
You may notice that ClimateCrisis.net is still (as of March, 2011) supplying such erroneous, alarmist claims and unscientific exaggerations—or, in other words, lies—to schools and to schoolchildren.
